Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland
I signed an 18 month lease for a townhouse. I was shown a model, told that my place was just like the model. I was not permitted inside the actual places until the evening after the lease was signed.
After I moved in I discovered many ills such as: mice, bugs, foul smell, damaged tub. I requested that these things be corrected both in person and in writing. Nothing was done, so after staying there for one month and staying with family for the other month, I gave 30 days notice along with my last months rent. Management offered a settlement of a total of 3 months rent-1 mo. security and 2 mos. rent. After I moved out and thoroughly cleaned the house, management created additional charges claiming the stove had some dirt on it and the rug was not vacuumed.
Question: If I refused to pay these unfair charges, which I believe all of the charges are unfair due to the condition of the place, how far will the law allow them to persue me for the money? Can they have a lean put on my personal property or realestate that I own? Thank for you your advice

Your landlord has a duty to keep the premises free of mice. Check this site http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/landlords.htm, and call one of the agencies listed under 'assistance' for further help.
