Legal Question in Legal Malpractice in Maryland

Doctor Patient Confadentiality

I was in the E.R. and left to get an ultra-sound but before I got back the doctor came in and told everfything to my friend that had just arrived to my room to wait for me. She says that he didn't ask who she was or how she knew me or anything. Second of all the doctor never returned to tell me what was going on, he told her to explain it to me. Now isn't that a doctor patient confadentiality issue?

Re: Doctor Patient Confadentiality

Unless the friend had been authorized by you to receive medical information pertaining to you, it was poor practice for the doctor to do what he did. However, confidentiality refers to communications between the doctor and the patient, which is not what occurred here.
