Legal Question in Military Law in Maryland

Military Orders

Situation:

I am currently on ADME (active duty medical extension) and receiving medical care at Walter Reed Hospital. I am in the National Guard and my unit is requsting that ''I'' produce a copy of my orders. However, I do NOT have a copy of my orders. I am being told by my chain-of-command, that if I do NOT show up for drill and can NOT produce a copy of my orders then I will be coded as AWOL and UCMJ action will be taken.

My question is: Is it my/the soldiers responsibility to produce a copy of the orders? I have tried to get a copy but no one at the hospital seems to know where they are.

In advance,

Thank you.

Re: Military Orders

You can be required to produce a copy of your orders ONLY if you were issued orders. If you were not, you should contact the unit you were attached to immediately before reporting to Walter Reed to ask them to issue orders covering your ADME. The National Guard Liaison at Walter Reed should be able to assist. If not, contact a patient representative or patient advocate to assist you. You may also ask to see the hospital Staff Judge Advocate (legal office) if necessary. If all else fails, contact the hospital Chaplain's office.
