It depends. Your insurance would be responsible, as authorized users are covered. In MD, you would not be directly liable as owner; however, if the accident took place in DC, the owner is liable. In MD, you are liable if you negligently entrusted the car to your son knowing or having reason to know that he is not capable of safely driving it, or if he was acting as your agent.
