Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

Damage to property

I work for a dog walking company as an independent contractor based in washington dc. I live in Maryland. I was recently boarding one of their client's dogs and he damaged property in my apartment (a bedroom door) and personal property (a crate that I use for my own dog). The compnay owners told me that since I took on the job, the damage is basically my problem. Who is responsible for the damage done to my apartment and my crate.

Re: Damage to property

Perhaps the dog's owner, if you can establish that they were aware that the dog acted out like this (hard to prove)and failed to forewarn you, and also that the dog would be boarded in your apartment. This seems like an unusual boarding arrangement. Without an express agreement that the dog walking company would be responsible for this kind of damage as part of your contractual relationship with them, I doubt you can hold them responsible. If you do this on a regular basis, you need to insure yourself against this kind of loss.
