Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland
Estranged Husband Suing for Trover/Conversion, Defamation, Invasion of Privacy.
Hi -
Last year, my husband (of less than 1 month) assaulted & battered me and my young daughter. I filed and was granted a protective order, as well as criminal charges for assault/battery. He was ordered to move out of my home (which is in my name years before I ever met him). He has not only given me a problem with the divorce, but has also filed suit for conversion of property (a couple of gifts he had given me, which he now wants me to pay for), and defamation of character/invasion of privacy-false light/invasion of privacy-public disclosure of private facts. His allegations are absolutely false and a continuation of abuse. What are my options?

Invest in a divorce lawyer (like me) who should be able to handle all of the above. The State will handle the criminal charges for you, but you must defend against Trover and Conversion. Those issues might become moot if you include them in a Petition for Divorce. A lawyer can advise you once you sit down with him/her and discuss the circumstances of the property.
