Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland
Hurt at a grocery store
I was in a grocery store (Giant) and I slipped and fell in front of the asst. store manager and a police officers. The floor was wet from the snow, (no wet floor signs or mats) they took me to the hospital in an ambulance. They said I have a sever-sprained ankle with a possible hairline crack. I have to go to an ortho Doc to have him check for it. Today. I dont want to have to pay my insurance deductible. What should I do?

Re: Hurt at a grocery store
Slip and fall cases can be very difficult especially on raining/snowy days. I would definitely like to speak with you regarding this incident.
Please email me whenever you get a chance, and we can set up a time to speak regarding this matter.
Thank you,

Whether you can successfully make a claim against Giant depends on whether they were aware or should have been aware of the slippery nature of the area where you fell.
Since a store manager was right in the vicinity, this increases the likelihood that they were aware and should have taken remedial action (mop the floor, put up a sign) to make the area safer and warn customers. It also could depend on where in the store you fell. If it was right by the entrance, it would be harder to maintain the area, because of the constant flow of customers, although they could put down a mat. I've handled a number of these cases and if you would like to discuss it further, you can email me for further information.
