Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

I was involved in a MVA which has now resulted in civil suit. Plaintiffs refused settlement or arbitration. As the defendant- what benefits would I gain by obtaining outside representation in addition to the staff counsel provided by my insurance carrier?

Probably none, unless the claim is serious enough that there is a possibility that the plaintiff might receive a verdict in excess of the coverage limit you have on your insurance policy. The insurance company hires attorneys who are experienced in defending these cases--that's pretty much all they do. While this is to protect you, it's also mainly to protect the insurance company's wallet, since they will have to pay any judgment awarded against you up to the policy limit.
