Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

Can a person sue their former employer and/ or a parts company...?

At this present time, I have an open Workers comp case going from being injured at my former job. I was wondering if I could sue that company for neglecting to stay probably staffed, for not keeping up on vehicle maintenance and or for having faulty equipment (i.e. the tommy lift gate on the company trucks) which all had a hand in me getting injured in the first place? Is there a time limit in which a suit like this can be filed ( I was injured in November 2006). What would be the legal term for such a lawsuit?

You cannot sue your former employer for a work-related injury based on the facts you stated. Your claim is through the workers' compensation system, in which you are presently engaged. However, if a 3rd party contributed to your injury--for example, if the tommy lift gate was defectively manufactured and such defect was a cause of your injury, you could bring a products liability suit against them.
