Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

If I rent a car in my name, purchasing all of the rental car insurance, could my parents be held liable if any damage occurs? I am over 21, living with my parents, and I plan to rent a car. Seeing that my personal car insurance is under their name, I plan on purchasing all of the insurance options that the rental car company offers to eliminate their liability. In ANY situation causing damage (accident causing personal or bodily damage, etc.) could they be held liable? Thank you!

As long as you buy all the insurance the car company offers (which is always a good idea -- I worked as a lawyer for a car rental company, and they will come after you), your parents are covered. Basically, as long as you buy all the insurance required, you can basically drive the car off the cliff and walk away with no liability. The only thing to make sure of is that your personal driving insurance and especially your health care insurance are in order, as the rental insurance bodily injury coverage may not give you as much coverage as you need in case YOU get hurt in an accident.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
