Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland
I have had a slip and fall accident on a car dealership lot. There was construction that was not completed and I fell and broke my foot. My foot now has 20% permanent damage, and I have lost a lot of ability with it, and now have chronic pain. I am no longer able to walk on inclines, or with shoes with heals, because 3 of my toes have permanent numbness and I am not able to balance my weigh when it shifts to that foot (I only weight 120lbs...)I am unable to exercise that has any impact on that foot. But the worst is the chronic pain from day to day.
We have been negotiating back and forth for a settlement for a 1 1/2 years and their final offer is $30,000.
My feeling is that it should be at least in the $50-60,000 range, but my (lazy) attorney thinks I should accept it. What do you think?

Without knowing how much your past and potentially future medical bills are, as well as any other out of pocket losses, nor your age and other factors, it's impossible to evaluate your case. If you are dissatisfied with your attorney, you should explore replacing him/her, although they would be entitled to be compensated for the services rendered to date. Ask your attorney to see if the other side will agree to resolve this through binding arbitration, or short of that, sub- mit it to mediation for a nonbinding evaluatiion.
