Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland
Being sued for $1 Million Dollars for personal injury
Last year, I hit a pedestrian in a parking lot. I was traveling under 4 miles an hour and I did everything I could to help (called the police, ambulance, etc.). I have just received a lawsuit against me saying her medical bills and lost wages were equal to about $20 thousand. However, they are suing for $1 Million dollars for pain, suffering, and mental anguish. My insurance company is working on this and assigning me an attorney. Should I be concerned that they will have to pay the $1 Million? My coverage is only enough for a very small portion of that.

Your insurance company has a legal obligation to provide a defense up the the amount of coverage. Without knowing further details it is impossible to determine whether you should consider obtaining counsel to defend your interest beyond the level of insurance coverage. You may want to speak with an attorney.
