Name added to deed ?

My partner ( we're a gay couple ) refinced the house last year and at that time signed a quit claim deed and added my name to the deed.What exactly does this mean for me ?

It means you're a co-owner of the property. You should check out the deed to see how your partner

titled the property. If it says that the two of you own it as joint tenants with right of survivorship, that means that whoever outlives the other will automatically become sole owner upon the other's death. On the other hand, if it says you own it as tenants in common, you each have an indivisible half interest which either of you can leave through your estate.

The fact that your partner used a quitclaim deed means that whatever you acquired was subject to any defects in the title or liens against the property, but most likely that should not be of concern.
