Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Clean Hands Doctrine--Unclean Hands--

I found this on another web

site.....west.net/~smith/

equity.htm.....'' Unclean Hands.

No court of equity will enforce or

entertain construction of a contract

in a manner incompatible with the

laws or public policies of the state. A

party that has been guilty of

misconduct may be denied equitable

relief. The clean hands doctrine only

applies when the plaintiff has acted

unjustly in the very transaction of

which he complains. As a general

rule it is required that to be a bar the

wrongdoing must be connected with

the subject of the litigation and have

some relation to the rights of the

parties arising out of the

transaction.'' Can you explain in

layman's term what the last

sentence means? Thank You.

Re: Clean Hands Doctrine--Unclean Hands--

The doctrine applies to equitable claims. Within a contract it may be relevant as to when unclean hands arose. You should contact an attorney as other factors may apply.
