Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
Condominium Association
Our nine unit Ocean City condo association has recently voted to add boat slips. It was put up for a vote and approved by the board members present even though the President was out of the country and several units were not represented at the meeting, the meeting had not been rescheduled. The association also added an addendum stating the boat slips can not be rented out to the public. I personally don't own a boat or plan on buying a boat, as with several other members. Is the association legally allowed to extend to other members the expense of a luxury item such as boat slips? And if they are can they block me from renting my boat slip which at this time will never be used unless rented?
Thank You

Re: Condominium Association
You need to study your condo bylaws to see if the board followed them in approving the boat slip addition. If so, then there isn't much you can do, other than try to muster support for a revote, at least on the "no rental" issue. If they didn't follow the procedures set up in the bylaws, you could write a letter in protest and demand that the issue be reopened and that the correct procedures be followed. If they refuse, you could bring a legal action.
