I am not sure about this, but does my county of residence keep a copy of the sales contracts for the house I just bought?

No, the county of your residence does not keep a copy of the sales contract for the house you just bought. However, the county will have a copy of the mortgage documents (if you have a loan) and deed for your house.

The above does not create the attorney-client relationship. The above is for informational purposes only.

In Maryland real estate can be titled in numerous ways. Two methods apply for mortgages. A deed or a deed of trust are the two methods where property is not owned completely free of a mortgage. These two methods have varying implications as to the mortgage company's right to terminate or foreclose. Redemption rights are guaranteed through statute. In neither event will the county record the contract of sale. Where litigation has occurred such a document may become a court record. The sales price alone is recorded in the county records for purposes of assessing the recordation taxes. Contact me should you need legal assistance.
