Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
I was high bidder on a estate home at public auction witch was listed in a local paper as required. There was no reserve price set. I paid the money required to bid and signed all the documents and was going to settle the ballance this week. The house was appraised at @ 92,000 and i bid 25,000 and was the only bidder of 8 people present including my lawyer. The house had been listed by a real estate agency for almost three years without even one offer, with multiple showings. The house needs major repairs, but is livable. I just received a summons by the Register of wills to show why i should be able to buy this home. Is this legal? I recently married the executer of the property who i have been engaged to for almost three years.

It's difficult to give you an accurate answer without seeing the documents, but what most likely happened is that one of the estate beneficiaries objected to the sale at that price because it was so far below the appraised value, and also possibly because of your relationship with the personal rep (executor). Or it could have been raised by the auditor at the Register's office. You will have to explain it as you did in your question in order for the sale to be approved.
