Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
Home Contract
We put in a contract or bid to purchase an existing home owned by a relocation company over 2 weeks ago. They asked us to move up the settlement date and wanted us to sign papers in agreement to this. We did and they still have not given us an answer as to whether they are accepting the contract or not. What can we do, if anything

Re: Home Contract
It depends upon whether or not you have a contract or not. If they returned the entire offer with a new addendum, but signed it, this would have been a counteroffer, which you could make into a contract by signing it (if you made no changes). If they have done this, I would ask them to do so immediately. If agents are involved here, they should be in daily contact to resolve this dispute. A letter to the listing agent or the listing agent's broker about the impasse must be passed along to the seller, so a carefully worded letter might be a good idea. However, if you
do not have a contract to buy the home, you have no leverage, other than the threat to walk from the deal.
