Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
I have my own home owners insurance through Statefarm. My question is: Should I still be charged home owners insurance through my escrow also?

When you bought the house, the lender required you to buy homeowner's insurance and to establish an escrow account to allow the lender to keep paying the premiums after the first year's coverage expired. It was up to you to select the policy you wanted and pay the first year's premium, either directly or through the settlement process. If thereafter you decided to switch coverage to State Farm, you should have cancelled the existing coverage and notified the lender so they could start paying State Farm under the same escrow arrangement. Obviously if you have 2 policies in place you are wasting money.
