Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Legal Rights for a live on property manager

I was terminated as a self storage manager and I live on the property in an old trailer provided by the employer. I was given two weeks to move out. What are my rights? There is no lease only a verbal agreement by the owner to move-in. Must I leave in two weeks? What are my options? I was wrongfully discharged, but that is another question.

Re: Legal Rights for a live on property manager

It sounds like you were allowed to live in the trailer (presumably as part of your pay for the job), and are therefore not a "tenant" entitled to the protection of the landlord-tenant law. Although you might be able to argue that you received less income because of the live-on-the-premises arrangement and are therefore entitled to tenant status and rights. In any event, at most the landlord could evict you with 30 days' notice in a court proceeding. My guess is he'll treat you as a trespasser and may try to physically evict you without going to court.
