Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

does maryland honor "cohabiating laws" and how long can the process take when I hire an attorney to either force my boyfriend to buy me out or force the sale of the house? It's beginning to become a nightmare living condition with him & his drug use.I live in AA county md , unemployed since 10/08 and really need to start this legal process so I can move on with my life.

You weren't specific, but I assume you and he are joint owners of the house (both named on the deed). If so, you will have to file a lawsuit known as a partition action to force a sale of the house. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, which you really will need for this, contact the AA county bar association and ask about their pro bono program. If you qualify you may be entitled to a free or at least a reduced fee attorney. MD does not recognize common law marriage or cohabitation as a legal relationship.
