Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Mold Growth

I have a overwhelming mold growth in 4 rooms in my apartment. I orignally put in a maintance request to have it corrected on April 16 by phone. I reeived no response so I put it in writting on April 23. No response so I put in 5 more request since then. I even called the corporate office. Finally they came out and fixed the mold in 1 room and the growth in the other 3 remain. They said they were going to hire an outside contractor to correct the problem that was 2 weeks ago. I am sure that the mold has made me very sick. I have letters from my OB doctor (I am 6 months pregant) and my allergist. It has made my son asthma worest and my daughter has had resp infections all because of the mold. Rent is due and I have heard that I can pay it to the court. How do I do this? I live in Montgomery County. I still remain sick from the mold. Can I sue the apartment complex? What type of lawyer should I seek if I can sue them? What is the fee to sue them? Do I have a case? If so how long will it take to get the them to correct the mold problem? Should I contuine to put in maintence requet for the mold problem?

Re: Mold Growth

You need a lawyer who handles landlord-tenant matters. Contact the Lawyer Referral Service of the county bar association and request an appointment with a member of the service who handles these kinds of cases. You may be income-eligible for a reduced fee attorney; ask the referrer about this. An initial consultation will cost you $25-40.
