Re: Mortgage payment

You may have submitted payment in full but not have completed the process to receive your deed. Contact the lender who has an interest in the property to coordinate a release. They may request ordinary processing fees. You should ensure that the release has been filed in the property records. Contact me should you need assistance.

Re: Mortgage payment

If the mortgage company didn't explain why they were returning the payment, you need to call customer service and find out what is going on. One reason this happens is when the payment is less than the amount currently due, including late fees, etc. If your mortgage is indeed paid off, you should be soon receiving your original deed of trust note that you signed when you took out the loan, marked "paid in full" or "paid and cancelled". It's important that you have this document recorded in the land records as a release of your mortgage, unless the mortgage company already did it for you. You will know if they did if you see a recent recording date on it from the county recorder of deeds. Sticking it in a file won't do the trick if it hasn't been submitted for recording.
