Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
Partnership
My girlfreind and I just bought a home with the assistance of her mother who is a mortgage broker. Her mother provided the down payment and put the house in my girlfriend's name.
My question is can I recoup my contributions to mortgage payments and rehabilitation costs in the event we should end our relationship? Do I just need to keep records of my financial contributions? Will that be enough for me to have a legal claim?

Re: Partnership
You put your self at considerable risk by not insisting that your name be on the deed, and by not having a written understanding about what would happen if your "partnership" dissolves. It's not too late, especially if things are still going smoothly between you and your girlfriend, to put a written agreement in place. Is the mother entitled to recoup her down payment if the property is sold? Who decides what the sales price would be? How do you decide how much you're entitled to for your "investment" in gthe property at that time? As things stand now, you have no control over any of this.
Re: Partnership
Rather than leave the outcome on future litigation should this come to occur, you should contact an attorney to take steps that will improve your ability to recoup your payments should your relationship cease. My fees are reasonable.
