Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
Privacy violation
My girlfriend called her rental office to report another tenants boyfriend for dealing drugs in the parking lot of her complex. The tenant works in the rental office and found out that my girlfriend reported the drugdealing coming in and out of the tenants apartment. Is this illegal for her to have found out from the rental office that my girlfriend had reported them for drugs? The report was made directly to the office manager which the tenant is not she is just a clerk.

Re: Privacy violation
The office manager clearly does not understand his/her obligation to provide for safe premises. Although this is not a privacy violation per se, the communication should have been dealt with confidentially. Other liability may extend from the office manager's lack of proper discretion.
Complaints about drug dealing are better oriented toward the police department. The police are required by law to maintain confidence over such disclosures, protecting the informant, and are best suited to address these matters.
