real estate: adding name to deed

I want to add my unmarried partner's name to the deed on my (paid off) home so we have joint ownership with right of surviorship toavoid any probate in case I pass before they do. I want to nsure the house goes directly to them upon mydeath. How do I do this?

Re: real estate: adding name to deed

You have to execute a deed naming you as grantor and the couple as grantees in joint tenancy. The deed must meet a number of legal requirements in order to be valid, and it would be wise to seek the services of an attorney familiar with this process to do this. Also, there will be transfer and recordation taxes imposed when you submit the deed for recording.
