Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

I recently vacated my apartment and have since received a check for the balance of my security deposit. My roommate has moved out of state, and I have no method in which I may contact them. The check I received is made out to myself and my roommate. I contacted the leasing office and they denied any requests to split the check equally. Is there anything I can do?

Have you tried one of the social networking sites (Facebook, etc.) to see if your roommate has a page, or if someone knows them? Did he have mail forwarded--if so try sending a letter to your current address and maybe he'll receive it.
