Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
Roomate disputes
II was living with a friend and co-worker for over a year, I fell behind on bills that i was responsible for. No lease was ever signed. I was responsible for the Ground Rent (which was paid every month), Gas and Electric, telephone, Cable, as well as food. The Gas and Electric also had a brand new washer, dryer and refrigerator on it, but paying for food plus those other bills, I could only afford to pay for the Gas and Electric not the appliances. Before Christmas, my son was dropped off after school and couldn't get in. He called me from a payphone. Luckily my sister was able to take us in, we were not allowed to take our stuff at that time. I attempted on several occasions to call my ex-roommate to find out what I could do, and find out if my son and I could get our clothes, his school material, etc. I also wanted to offer to pay her a certain amount per paycheck to help with the bills that were late, but she would not return my calls nor answer the phone. I was served with court papers from this person (we both work in the same building for the same company). She is suing me for over 11,000.00 dollars, I realize that I owe some money for past due bills, but it is NOT over 11,000.00 dollars

I didn't see a legal question anywhere, but whatever is, is. In other words, you are being sued for $11000, period. Don't discuss anything with the person suing, or the person's friends. Once the litigation starts, you should take the same attitude, DENY that you owe anyting, but for the sake of ending the dispute, you can make some arrangement. Don't admit anything. Even at trial, don't tell the Judge in open court that you pwe, because that will shorten the trial to HOWMUCH? Talk to your lawyer. Be Prepared. Good luck.
