Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
Roommate skipped out on rent
I lease a three bedroom apartment with two others. All three of our names are on the lease and we split the rent in thirds. One of the roommates is refusing to pay rent and the other two are being forced to cover for him. Is there any legal action we can take against the third roommate to recover our money?

Non-paying roommate
The two who are paying his way can sue him in District Court to compel him to perform the contract as he agreed and for damages (that part of the rent he has not paid). If the rental agreement so provides, (s)he may also be liable for attorney fees for all the parties.
