Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland
seizure of property
My mom was in a car accidently recently breaking both of her ankles and has been in and out of surgery for the past 3 weeks. her landlord called her at the hospital in week 2 demanding rent money. she told him she cant walk for 12 weeks and cant pay rent so she was going to have someone come pack her stuff up and store it at their house and he said no she couldnt have her stuff until she paid the rent. she has a weekly lease and since she was in the hospital for 2 weeks couldnt pay it so he tacked on 2 weeks worth of rent that she knows of. she doesnt know if he's even still tacking on rent even though she doesnt live there. plus she said the fine print on the lease says he can keep her stuff. is it even legal to put that on a lease? I know he's done this to alot of people he has a garage full of peoples stuff he's kept over the years. but given the circumstances shouldnt she be able to get her stuff. its not like she purposely didnt pay the rent. she was in the hospital with 3 compound fractures. i dont even live there but alot of my stuff is there including stuff worth a bit of money and all of our clothes and everything please let me know what can be done.

Re: seizure of property
It appears that this landlord is out of control. He simply cannot "help himself." You should evaluate whether you want to take legal action.
