what can be done to stop a real estate agent from writing false, incorrect and misleading statements about a house for sale in an apparent attempt to devalue the property?

If the statements are just opinions of the agent, nothing. If they are misstatements of fact, you could file a complaint with the appropriate real estate board. Depending on where these statements are being posted, have your realtor challenge the statements in the same media.
