Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

new trees blocking views and light

Builder is erecting tall berms and planting new large trees along the side property line which will greatly block existing views and sunlight to my house. How can I stop him or force reduction in height

First, I'd check with the county building inspector to see if the builder is in compliance with setback requirements and height/square footage (floor area ratio) requirements. If he had been required to seek a variance, there should have been signs posted giving neighbors and other affected parties the chance to protest. If the builder has complied with all requirements and is properly permitted, there may be a procedure that allows a protest if enough people in the surrounding area join together in protest; check with the permit people.
