Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

We won a monetary judgement for unpaid rent and are going through the procedures to collect by garnishing wages. We also have approx $5000 in damages to the property. Is it worth going after them for damages?

You don't state the amount of your judgment for rent but it sounds as though you have a judgment for $5,000 plus some other unspecified amount. In Maryland, post-judgment interest accrues as well from date of judgment onward.

The law does offer certain exemptions to judgment debtors which would disincline a creditor to go after garnishing property if the total value of the debtor's property is less than $6,000. However, if the judgment debtor has steady income, wage garnishments do offer a way to collect. For wage garnishments you will need to prepare monthly reports. You may want to consult with an attorney for assistance in seeking garnishment or other post judgment collection activity.
