Legal Question in Social Security Law in Maryland
Can social security income of a minor be used to help pay monthly mortgage payments
1 Answer from Attorneys
Generally speaking, the guardian ("primary payee" in social security-speak) holds the minor's social security payments on behalf of the minor. Generally, the primary payee has discretion in using the SS payments for the benefit of the child -- food, clothes, shelter, etc. You may consider hiring a Maryland social security attorney who specializes in these types of matters to discuss your question more specifically. I would also ask that attorney about the potential consequences of using your minor's SS income if you also are on SS benefits. Best of luck. ****** The above does not establish an attorney-client relationship and is intended solely for informational purposes.******
