Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

Car Towed for Expired Tag

I am currently living in an apartmet complex in Baltimore County. My vehicle is registered in Florida under my dad's name and the tag was renewed this past December for 2008. This morning I awoke to discover my car had been towed from my apartment complex. Apparently I had forgotten to place the new 2008 sticker onto my tag so it appeared that it was expired. When I first called my apartment office they said they had no record of a car fitting my description had been towed, but when I called their towing company they confirmed they had my car. Now I am stuck paying $228 to get my car back tomorrow. Is an apartment complex required to give you any warning that your vehicle might be towed for expired tags, or any notice that your vehicle has been towed? Also, do they not have to confirm that your registration is actually expired, or do they automatically consider your tag expired if your sticker is out of date? My lease says 'Tenant does hereby irrevocably constitute and appoint Landlord as Tenant's attorney in fact to remove any unauthorized vehicles or other property stored in violation of this lease, and to store the same at the expense of Tenant in such place or places as Landlord may deem proper.' Am I completely out of luck?
