Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland
Complex Parking Lot Accident
I was backing out of my parking space in my apartment and bumped my neighbors bumper. It was at night, badly lit, and their car was in a fire lane, which was in my blind spot. There was minor bumper damage on their car, and not even any paint damage on mine. I left a note with my apartment number. Later my phone number was given, but never my name. I told the man to get an estimate and I would give him some money. He said this was satisfactory. I was later given an estimate for over $5,000 worth of damage (i think very excessive), I was not able to respond immediatly because I had (documented) pneumonia. I was then left a note saying I had 24 hours to pay the balance. I could not do this, working a low wage hourly job at the time. His insurance company called me and in a panic I denied the accident occured. I now have a new insurance company but my old one is reviewing the claim. Is there any way for me to avoid a fine? Any options? Thanks for the help.

Re: Complex Parking Lot Accident
If you had insurance at the time of the damage and the company is giving you the run around then you should contact an attorney. Based on your description of the facts the claim itself appears to be speculative.
