Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland
I am a foreigner and i got a ticket
I am a foreigner and come to USA once in a while. i came here last month and i am driving since. I took an U turn on a red light after stopping. I was tired. I am from India and i drive on the other side on the road there so here i always have to remain extra cautious. Even then driving is more of an instinct. It was a mistake which happend as i was tired and i am not as accoustomed to driving on the right side of the street as most people are.
The ticket i got charged me for failing to stop on a steady red light but i did stop and then took a turn i did not go across the light ... the fine charged is also for going across not for U turning which i think is lesser.
Do you think that if i explain this to the judge my points maybe removed ?

Re: I am a foreigner and i got a ticket
Without intending to be condesending, I suggest you strongly consider obtaining the assistance of an attorney. Commnication barriers and your lack of understanding of American jurisprudence may get the better of you. Some judges are very impatient and of course you may not fair well if such were to be the case. As to the details of your charge and question, I would need to see the ticket and discuss other matters. Consider that the cost of hiring an attorney may be offset by not having your insurance premium increase or avoiding another even worse outcome.
