Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

Illegal Towing

Hi, I live in an apartment complex in Montgomery County Maryland, with open parking that has paid reserve spaces. This weekend, my girlfriend, who is also a resident, accidentally parked in a reserved spot when it was pouring down rain and she couldn't see the sign painted on the ground (the spots aren't in any determined area or anything, they are just randomly picked and reserved with a stenciled sign on the asphalt). The next morning, the resident who reserved that spot had her car towed. Is this legal in any way? Can anyone just have a car towed? The rental office has our license plate #'s on file so I feel like at worst we should get a warning or a call from the leasing office to move our car, not having to pay $250 to get our car back for parking in the wrong spot, when there were other spots available for this other person to park in.

Re: Illegal Towing

I doubt if you have any legal remedy. But if the markings aren't clear at night, or if they aren't reflective, etc., you should contact your leasing company and attempt to have them pay the towing charge. If that doesn't work, write a letter to the corporate office of the leasing company.
