Maryland Driving Speeding Ticket in NY

While driving down in a rental car Buffalo, NY from Maryland, I was stopped for speeding & got a ticket ($170) for going 70 on a 55. I was surprised when the cop stopped me because he did that at an intersection & said that I was speeding on the highway I-190. I remember very clearly that was in the middle lane at around 55 MPH and was in between a slew of other cars. I did not speed all through my trip as my old mother & wifeI asked the cop where did he find me speeding. He just said that I was on 70 on a 55 and that I would get a summon. If I want to challenge it I need to do it in writing or in person in court. I looked at the ticket and it says the ''Arrest Type'' as Laser. But its strange because the cop did not even slightly hint that he had me on the gun or if I knew the speed limit or if I had an emergency. He just hurried with handing me a ticket. The other important thing is that I later on observed that the speedometer of my rental was showing the speed incorrectly when compared to a GPS. I have complained to the rental company and they have apologised for it in writing. Is there any hope that I can convince the judge in not pleading guilty.

You should consider doing a driver improvement program in Md and writing a letter to the prosecutor's office in Erie County asking that your ticket be dismissed.
