Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

non moving traffic tickets

My sister got a traffic ticket in Maryland for not having her driver's registration card(Virginia) on her. The ticket was for some dollar amount like $40 or $50. She misplaced the traffic ticket and never paid it because she didn't know where to mail it to. Now, her license(Virginia)is suspended. How does she fix this problem? Who does she call in Maryland to find out the exact amount that she has to pay to get her license back and to find out where to send the payment. Or, can she just call Virginia DMV since that's where her license is?

I suspect the issues in your sister's case are more serious. In order to get a ticket for no registration, the cop had to pull her over for some reason. I would assume he gave her a ticket for that also. If she did not pay the ticket, and then did not appear in court, more than likely there is an arrest warrant for her in the State of Maryland. That is why her VA license is now suspended. Your sister needs to contact a criminal lawyer, like myself, to have the bench warrant lifted, and to set the case in for a hearing, if fines will not satisfy all tickets.

Your sister needs to contact the local court in the county she was ticketed in. The court of conviction should be listed on her driving record at the Virginia DMV. She will have to pay the fine and any court costs. Then she will need to take her receipt and paperwork to the Virginia DMV and pay a reinstatement fee. She should also check with Maryland MVA and make sure her privilege to drive there has not been suspended. That should take care of the problem.
