Radar Use
Is radar use allowed at night in Maryland?

Re: Radar Use
On the Website NAVCOPS Network back in Nov. 05 there was a discussion among various officers regarding this question in the public discussion forum.
On Nov. 26, 2005, one of these officers posted the following: "In the state of Maryland I can hide, no lights on and write 1805's(speeding tickets, apparently) all night long." However,
the officer also noted that some PD's have differing requirements with respect to how the officer is to be positioned when running RADAR
at night and whether he or she is required to have
the cruiser's lights on. These requirements, however, apparently do not fall under Maryland state law but rather are part of what the cops refer to as SOP(standard operating procedure)for their particular department/agency.
Given the foregoing, I would answer your question
in the affirmative. The use of RADAR at night by police agencies appears quite legal under Maryland state law.
