Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

Traffic Tickets

I was caught speeding doing 92 in a 55 at 3am a few months back and the officer gave me three tickets. One for reckless driving, one for excessive speeding and one for having a Virginia license in Maryland. After recieving my court summons i appeared for court only to find that i had just missed the court session by five minutes. I went to the desk to ask what i should do about this and they were unhelpful and now i just found out that i may have a bench warrant out for my arrest. What advice can you give me because i have not recieved any subsequent notice of any action taken against me.

Re: Traffic Tickets

If you were charged only with fine-able (non-jailable) offenses, then you should not have a bench warrant. What Maryland courts do is suspend your drivers' license when you FTA or don't pay a traffic ticket such as these. That suspension will most likely find it's way to Virginia.

You should either hire an attorney or attempt to write a letter to the court asking for a new court date, and explaining the situation. The other option, if that doesn't work, is to just pay the tickets. Until you resolve this, your license will probably be suspended.

Traffic Tickets - Missed Court date

Paying the fines will result in enough points to suspend or revoke your license. You should contact an attorney who can write to the court, ask the bench warrant be lifted, and have the case reset for trial.
