Estate Law for Maryland
If someone passes and they do not have a will how are assets divided? Also, are bills paid first or heirs to the estate?

The estate would be probated as an "intestate" estate. Bills and claims of creditors are paid before any beneficiary of the estate. My service is available to probate the estate. Contact me at 410.750.2567

As Mr. Holthaus mentioned, creditors are paid first and beneficiaries receive what is left. As far as distribution, the remainder is divided according to Maryland's intestate provisions which are on the listed on the Maryland Register of Wills web page:
