Executors of wills

In the Sate of Maryland, is the executor of my will required to be a resident of the state, or may I select my sister who lives in NC?

In MD they're called "personal representatives" but it's the same thing. Yes, you can have your out of state sister named PR in your will, but when the time comes, she will have to designate a local agent who can accept service of process on your estate's behalf.

For Maryland wills, you may select an out of Maryland executor. At the time of your death 1 additional form appointing a Maryland Resident Agent for the executor who resides out of state will need to be filed with the Register of Wills to open the estate
