Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Maryland
Liability for Mother's Estate
My mother passed away and has nothing left in her estate. As her daughter and power of attorney, am I liable for any of her debt? What is the law regarding companies saying they will sue me for this money?

Re: Liability for Mother's Estate
Generally, you should not be liable for your mother's debts if they were solely hers. If you agreed to pay them, then that agreement may be enforceable. Also, if you depleted her assets using the power of attorney, your mother's creditors may seek to recover from you.
