Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Maryland

Probate and bills

My husband passed away. I paid for two seperate funerals to make his family happy. I allowed him to be buried other than the state he lived in. The family ordered a headstone and went way over the amount I said I could afford. I agreed to pay the amount I said orginally but now they are threating to sue me for the full amount. They picked it out, the bill is in their name and they signed for it. I wasn't even there or have never had contact with the man who made it. Do I have to pay the full amount since he was my husband? Probate has been close now for several months. Thank you.

Re: Probate and bills

You are under no personal obligation to pay. If the estate has been finalized and no claims were filed for payment of the headstone, they are basically out of luck.
