Legal Question in Workers Comp in Maryland

workers comp & new job

I'm a RN and I herniated a disk at work in Nov 2006. So far I've avoided surgery. I'm getting ready to go back to work soon and I'm trying to find a different job. If I don't work for the same company where the accident happened will I still be covered if my back flares up or gets worse? I don't have a lawyer and I'm not looking for a settlement, but I want to make sure I'm covered if it goes downhill again... Also, if it were to get bad again would I be eligible for workmans compensation for time off from the new job?

Your change of jobs will not affect your entitlement to workers' comp coverage for medicals, or for temporary disability benefits if you have to stop working, as long as the "flare-up" can be medically related to the original injury. However, it might affect a claim for permanent disability compensation.
