Legal Question in Workers Comp in Maryland
workman's compensation case
I was injured at work with third degree burns. I was hospitalized for 7 weeks. in that 7 week period I underwent surgery to repair my injuries. I went through all of the procededures and now I'm persueing my settlement. My lawyer informed me that for my case I will not be rewarded any money for pain and suffering. I am Confused. I went to work, did My job, got injured due to neglegence. What are my rights and what are my options? Thank you!

Re: workman's compensation case
Under the workers' comp system, pain and suffering is not one of the items for which an injured worker is entitled to compensation. If there is a party other than your employer or a fellow employee who is responsible for your injuries, you could sue that party in a civil court for pain and suffering, as well as medical expenses, permanent injury, etc. But you can't sue your empoyer--your claim can only proceed through the workers' comp system.
