Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Massachusetts

I have to file backruptcy from my divorce, I should have done it years ago, but I dont know what to do and can not afford a lawyer ( hence the backruptcy) is there a way I can do it on my own??

Yes, you can fill out the forms yourself, you can even hire a paralegal to do that for you. Should you do it is another question. Typically Attorneys do more than fill out forms, they analyze your exemptions to determine what is protected and what is not and what has to be done to protect your home. An attorney will look at your expenses, most clients under estimate their expenses or forget some expenses. Also, Debtors seem to think certain information is not important and this information does not need to be listed. Mistakes that Debtors make doing it themselves can cost them dismissal of their case or denial of a discharge. We have clients who have filed Bankruptcy themselves only to receive a dismissal and then it ends up costing them more money than had they come to our office in the first place to do the work. If you wanted a tooth pulled out, you go to a dentist, if you want your brakes fixed you go to a mechanic...
