Legal Question in Medical Leave in Massachusetts
Family Medical Leave Act
My mother in law was diagnosed with cancer and I am the only one that is able to take her to the doctor. The company I work for ''Digital Federal Credit Union'' said that she is not considered ''family'' and therefore I am not entitled to FMLA. Can you tell me if this is correct?
Thank you,

Re: Family Medical Leave Act
Your employer is correct that the FMLA does not cover in-laws. However, you may have some coverage under a similar Massachusetts state law (Small Necessities Leave). You should contact an attorney to discuss the specifics of your situation.
